Dr. Hughes is an Assistant Professor in the School of Social Work at Michigan State University. She earned her PhD at the University of Maryland, Baltimore and has been at Michigan State since 2009. She is a John A. Hartford Foundation Faculty Scholar in Geriatric Social Work and a former Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women’s Health (BIRCWH) scholar. Dr. Hughes’ research interests center on decreasing the psychosocial impact of chronic illness. She is currently co-investigator on a PCORI-funded project aimed at improving transitions for acute stroke patients from hospital to home. She is creator of the SexuWELLity program which is aimed at improving sexual well-being among older women.
