Center for Innovation and Research Call for Letters of Intent


CFIR accepts Concept Papers/Letters of Intent/Grant Proposals on a rolling submission basis.

LOI Rolling Submissions are due by 5:00pm on the following dates:

February 1, May 1, October 1


Interdisciplinary partnerships with
team members from both
Sparrow and MSU is a requirement.

 Proposals may be either Research (typically $50,000) or Translation (typically $25,000) projects.

Concept papers may be submitted at any time and should be 1-2 pages long. The Director will review the information and provide feedback on whether the project is suitable for CFIR. They can be mailed to

Did you know?

  • Teams with projects that were previously submitted to other institutions and were scored, but not funded, are welcome to contact the CFIR  for possible project support in order to help strengthen their proposal for resubmission. >>Requests may be made at any time.
  • CFIR will consider proposals for MICRO-GRANTS with a likelihood that the project will lead to another proposal at a federal level and support a collaborative team. The Micro-Grant budget typically does not exceed $10,000.00. Please use this TEMPLATE for submitting a MIcro-Grant request. >>Micro-Grant requests may be submitted at any time. 

*Prior to finalization of the budget, you should make contact with Sparrow Clinical Research Institute (SCRI): or call them at 517-364-5760. They can assist with activities that occur at Sparrow or involving Sparrow medical records that may or may not have related budget issues.  Please allow two weeks of lead time for processing. It is requested that you fill out the New Study Checklist to include in your correspondence to SCRI.
